Introduction to Sector

This section provides information about Sectors, which are used to divide the NACVIEW system into logically separated parts of the enterprise network. A Sector is a term related to a group of network resources and system components that are managed together, e.g. a branch office, a department or a specific network segment. In addition to its name, a sector includes: an optional description, enabled status, associated system nodes, monitoring system nodes, network devices, and administration groups. All this information is important in the process of deciding how traffic is distributed between NACVIEW system nodes, which node monitors all objects in a given part of the network (network devices and endpoint devices) and which node downloads the configuration from network devices, which access policies are divided between sectors, and which administrators are allowed to manage it.

System context: Sectors are created individually (Add). By default, NACVIEW contains one built-in sector, primary sector, to which the main system nodes (MASTER and SLAVE) are assigned. The built-in sector cannot be deleted. Each additional sector can be linked to system nodes, monitoring system nodes, network devices, and Administration groups allowed to manage it.

Operational Example: An organisation creates separate sectors such as Production, Finance and Logistics. Network devices located in the production hall are assigned to the Production sector, and only the administration group responsible for production can manage them. Authentication and monitoring of devices in that sector are handled by the system nodes assigned to it.

Add button is used to manually add a single new sector.

Group actions button is used to perform an action on multiple selected sectors at once. Sectors can be selected by holding the Ctrl or Shift key while clicking. The available actions are: Edit selected, Activate, Deactivate, and Delete.

The sector details panel🔗

The sector details panel opens when a specific sector is selected from the list (Details). It displays all information about the selected sector in one place, in read-only mode. The top of the panel contains action buttons for the selected sector (Edit, Archive), while below them the full set of the sector’s attributes is shown, including creation data (Created by), Name, Enabled status, Description, Download, Monitoring, and Profiling.

Edit button is used to edit the attributes of the selected sector.

Archive button is used to display the archive records related to the selected sector, showing when each record was created, by whom, from which IP address, and the object name and type.

Panels🔗

The following expandable panels are available at the bottom of the right-hand side of the details view:

Administration groups - shows the administration groups allowed to manage this sector.

Network devices - shows the network devices (switches, access points, controllers) belonging to this sector.

System nodes - shows the NACVIEW system nodes (e.g. MASTER, SLAVE) assigned to this sector.
