Introduction to WiFi Network

This section provides information about WiFi networks, the wireless network definitions (SSIDs) whose availability and certificate-based configuration are managed by the NACVIEW system. A WiFi network is a term related to a wireless network broadcast (SSID), extended with additional information related to that specific network. In addition to its name, this information includes: its SSID, enabled status, an optional description, an optional linked PKI (Certificate Authority), and the administration groups allowed to manage it. This information can be used to effectively enforce the WiFi network authorization policy.

System context: WiFi networks are created individually (Add). Each WiFi network is identified by its unique SSID, and can optionally be linked to a specific PKI (Certificate Authority) other than the default one, used for certificate-based wireless authentication (e.g. EAP-TLS), and to Administration groups allowed to manage it.

Operational Example: When a device connects to a wireless network defined in NACVIEW, the applicable access policy is evaluated and the device is granted access to the network, on the VLAN specified in that policy.

Add button is used to manually add a single new WiFi network.

Group actions button is used to perform an action on multiple selected WiFi networks at once. Networks can be selected by holding the Ctrl or Shift key while clicking. The available actions are: Edit selected, Activate, and Deactivate.

The WiFi network details panel🔗

The WiFi network details panel opens when a specific WiFi network is selected from the list (Details). It displays all information about the selected network in one place, in read-only mode. The top of the panel contains action buttons for the selected network (Edit, Archive), while below them the full set of the network’s attributes is shown, including creation data (Created by), Name, SSID, Description, Enabled status, and PKI.

Edit button is used to edit the attributes of the selected WiFi network.

Archive button is used to display the archive records related to the selected WiFi network, showing when each record was created, by whom, from which IP address, and the object name and type.

The following expandable panels are available at the bottom of the right-hand side of the details view:

Administration groups - shows the administration groups allowed to manage this WiFi network.
